About the founder
Hi! I’m Val, the founder of Capable Minds Mathematics. My mission is simple: to transform mathematics from a source of stress into a journey of confidence, understanding, and growth. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics and years of teaching experience, I’ve helped countless students tackle maths with clarity and ease.
Having taught at institutions like Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle and Hereward House, I saw firsthand how abstract teaching methods often left students disconnected. That’s why I started Capable Minds Mathematics—to ground maths in relatable, engaging concepts that truly resonate.
As a professional singer-songwriter and theatre enthusiast, I bring creativity and energy to every lesson, making maths not only accessible but even enjoyable. Seeing students thrive and parents delighted with their progress is the most rewarding part of this journey.

Valentin has helped my son during a difficult maths year when he needed support. Not only he managed to get the highest grades but he managed to make maths an enjoyable time for my son. I am very grateful!

Education
My journey began with an 18/20 in Mathematics on my French Baccalaureate at the French School of Rome. I graduated with Honours in Mathematics from UPSUD and spent a formative year at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), further developing my skills (and enjoying a taste of Chicago-style pizza!). I went on to earn a Master’s degree from Royal Holloway University of London, specialising in the Mathematics of Cryptography and Communications.
My international and advanced education has shown me that while curricula may differ in approach, the core principles of mathematics remain consistent. The most effective results come from fostering deep understanding through clear visualisation and relatable methods. At Capable Minds Mathematics, I draw on this experience to deliver teaching that makes maths accessible, engaging, and tailored to each student’s needs.
I’m joined by an exceptional team with backgrounds from top institutions like Imperial College and UCL. Together, we bring a commitment to high-quality, personalised education, helping each student build confidence and achieve mastery in maths.
Work Experience
My tutoring journey began in the U.S., where I supported university students at the University of Illinois at Chicago in mastering their mathematics curriculum. After graduation, I joined the French School of London (LFCG) as an Educational Assistant, followed by two years as a Mathematics Consultant at Hereward House. I now serve as a Mathematics Specialist Teacher at the Hampstead Dyslexia Clinic, working closely with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia.
I am passionate about helping SEN students build confidence and overcome challenges in maths. Starting in January, I’ll be joining Dyslexia Action to assess and support teachers working with students with educational needs, ensuring the highest standards in SEN education.
I’m also a singer-songwriter and producer with millions of streams on Spotify. Balancing numbers and notes has enriched my teaching with creativity and passion, which I’m excited to share with my students, making maths both accessible and enjoyable.
SEN Specialisation
As a specialist in dyscalculia with a Level 5 PGCE Spe from the SEND Group, I am dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs, including dyslexia and dyspraxia. I believe that, with the right approach, maths can become clear and accessible for every learner. By tailoring my methods to fit each student's unique challenges, I help them build confidence and achieve meaningful progress.
I understand that numbers can be challenging, but with the right support, they can start to make sense, leading to significant improvements in both grades and confidence. My approach focuses on listening, understanding, and personalising support to ensure every child receives the care and attention they need to succeed. As a maths specialist, I am dedicated to listening to my students' challenges, understanding their unique needs, and adapting my teaching methods accordingly.
